DIN

Bridging Data, Disciplines, and People

The Dutch Interoperability Network (DIN) is a community of practice that brings together professionals working on interoperability challenges across research data, digital heritage, and infrastructure domains. The network supports knowledge exchange, collaboration, and alignment of initiatives at the national level.

About the Network

The network was initiated by TDCC-NES and kickstarted through the Open Science NL programme’s mission to strengthen local and thematic DCCs in training for open research software and the interoperability of research data and tools. It aims to strengthen national capacity for interoperability by fostering knowledge exchange, connecting initiatives, and supporting collaboration across disciplines and organisations. The TDCCs continue to play an active role in the coordination and organisational development of the network.

What does DIN do?

DIN strives to make interoperability better understood across domains and to foster shared knowledge among diverse communities.

  • Organises monthly community meetings focused on interoperability topics
  • Raises awareness of interoperability challenges and opportunities
  • Facilitates exchange of experiences, tools, and approaches across domains
  • Supports alignment between national initiatives and infrastructures
  • Contributes to developing training and capacity-building activities
  • Participates in events to advertise interoperability across domains
  • Promotes collaboration within and between organisations

SURF Research Day 2026 (Hilversum)

19 May 2026

Come explore interoperability (and why everyone is talking about it)
SURF Research Day 2026 brings together research, IT, and innovation communities to exchange ideas, connect, and experiment with new approaches.
Members of the Dutch Interoperability Network (DIN) will be present throughout the day at this event.

You can find us at the DIN booth to:
  • exchange ideas on interoperability challenges
  • explore how different institutions are approaching them
  • and connect with others working across domains

In the afternoon, DIN will also host an open discussion session:
“Exploring Interoperability by Connecting People, Data and Systems”
This session creates space to share experiences, raise questions, and explore where interoperability challenges actually arise in practice.
👉 Stop by the booth or join the session—we’d be happy to connect.

Connecting Knowledge: Tackling Interoperability in Research

21 May 2026

Interoperability is not only a technical topic—it is increasingly shaping how research is done across disciplines.
On 21 May 2026, the event “Connecting Knowledge: Tackling Interoperability in Research” organised by the Thematic Digital Competence Centres (NES, SSH, LSH), brings together national initiatives, researchers, and support professionals.
Members of the Dutch Interoperability Network (DIN) will be present at this event and will also contribute to parallel breakout sessions.
You can read more about the programme and register via this link.
Please note that capacity is limited, so early registration is recommended.

National Onboarding Day on Research Software Management & Interoperability

4 june 2026
