Buddy program

Hi! My name is Linus Band and I’m the research software trainer at the digital competence centre for the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In that capacity I help our researchers publish their research software sustainably, by means of the FAIR4RS principles as well as other useful digital skills, such as version management.

I’m quite new to this position, as I only started in July of this year. Therefore I’m still finding my bearings and setting up courses and workshops. This can all be quite a lot, and therefore it made perfect sense for me to join the LCRDM’s buddy program. Why reinvent the wheel? And practice what you preach, right?

For the buddy program I was teamed up with Olga Minaeva, who works as an innovative digital techniques trainer and DCC coordinator for NWO-I. She has been doing this for longer than I have and has experience dealing with a broad variety of institutes that all have different needs and questions. I can definitely learn a lot from her, like how to navigate the different departments and research institutes at the RU.

As the buddy programme has just taken off, we’ve met just once now in the lovely city of Groningen. We talked about a wide range of subjects: from the various challenges we face at the workplace to the crazy cats and obstinate dogs we face at home. I very much look forward to our next meeting in Zwolle, where I myself live!
